The Sporting Career of Jelena Jankovic
After almost 12 years in the Tennis scene, Jelena Jankovic has still remained a tennis icon. However, as most people already know, she has endured a lot of disappointments and injuries lately. The question most people have in their mind is whether or not tennis player jelena jankovik will be able to redeem herself in the upcoming seasons.
Jelena Jankovic became a professional tennis player on February 6, 2000. One year later, she was able to win the 2011 Australian Open. This was the competition wherein she received the Number 1 Junior Tennis Player title. It was also in the same year wherein Jelena joined the WTA tour. In 2003, Jelena Jankovic started gaining popularity. This was when she finally won the coveted International Tennis Federation title. After winning this title, Jelena immediately joined the Top 100 Tennis Players in the world, being ranked at Number 90.
In 2004, Jelena Jankovic was on a streak of hard work and good luck. She was able to bag a top 10 win in the 2004 Australian Open. A few months later, she won another coveted title. This time she won the Women’s Tennis Association in a Tier V event. After winning the WTA title, she jumped from Number 90 to a whopping number 51 most influential tennis players. However, her luck for 2004 does not end there. Jelena Jankovic defeated four players from the Top 20 tennis players of that season. And upon the end of 2004, she jumped one more time from number 51 to number 28.
Almost 9 years after she first became tennis pro, Jelena Jankovic was ranked as the world’s number 1 tennis player for almost 5 consecutive months. This recognition made Jelena the second person to have reached this prominent spot without winning the Grand Slam Tournament. Yet it was on February 2, 2009 that Serena Williams was successful in overtaking the desired recognition.
In 2007, Jelena Jankovic became the first Serbian tennis player to win a Grand Slam title. This was when she finally grabbed the Wimbledon mixed doubles win with British partner Jamie Murray. Apart from this distinction, Jelena is also one of seven unique players to have defeated both of the Williams sisters (Vanessa and Serena) within one tournament.
In 2008, Jelena joined the Wimbledon tournament but acquired an injury when playing against Caroline Wozniacki. And although she won the match, she lost the following match against Tamarine Tanasugarn. It was within this time that Jelena Jankovic lost two chances to return to her number 1 spot. However, on August of the same year, she finally defeated Ivanovic and returned to her rightful spot.
As of 2009, 2010 and 2011, tennis player jelena jankovik has been through a lot of ups and downs. She was able to reach the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships in 2011 but she lost to Samantha Stosur. During the Indians Wells Masters tournament of the same year, wherein she was the defending champion, she lost to long-time rival Ana Ivanovic. However, within 2011, Jelena has been slowly improving her form and performance. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we seeJelena Jankovic at the number one spot once again.
